Text watermarks for drafts and client documents
Text watermarks make document status clear. Common labels include “DRAFT”, “CONFIDENTIAL”, “SAMPLE”, “PAID”, “INTERNAL”, a client name or a project code. Short wording and 15–35% opacity usually keeps the PDF readable.
A diagonal centre watermark is strong for contracts and review versions. A smaller corner mark is better for invoices, reports and statements where numbers and signatures matter.
Logo and image watermarks
Use image mode for a company logo, approval stamp, product mark or project graphic. Transparent PNG is best for logos because it avoids a white box. JPEG is fine for rectangular images.
If the logo appears over text, reduce opacity and avoid covering totals, dates, signatures or key clauses.
Page ranges, odd/even pages and tiling
Mark every page or only selected pages such as a cover, attachments, odd/even pages or custom ranges like 1-3, 7, 10-. Tiled watermarks repeat across the page and are useful for confidential review files or samples.
Browser privacy and limits
Watermarking runs in the browser. That helps when files include client data, pricing, employee information, legal drafts or internal notes. The original file is not overwritten.
Very large scans or large batches may use significant memory, so process smaller groups if the browser slows down.
Watermarks are not redaction or signatures
A visible watermark is a label, not a security control. It does not remove sensitive information, prevent copying, or replace password protection and digital signatures. Editing a signed PDF normally invalidates its signature.
Troubleshooting
If the watermark is too strong, reduce opacity. If a logo has a white background, use transparent PNG. Unlock encrypted PDFs before watermarking and preview rotated or landscape pages before export.
