How to use a Belgian insurance invoice template
A Belgian insurance template should connect each amount due to a policy, insurer, coverage period and transaction. It is for premium collection and broker debit notes, not claim repairs or provider billing.
Fields to keep in the template
- Broker, agent or intermediary name, enterprise number, FSMA reference where used and payment details.
- Policyholder or insured, billing address and account reference.
- Insurer, policy number, class of cover, coverage period and effective date.
- Transaction type: new policy, renewal, endorsement, instalment, cancellation or return premium.
- Premium, broker fee, administration fee, insurance tax, finance charge and return premium separately.
Insurance tax in 2026
FPS Finance says the basic annual tax on insurance transactions increased from 9.25% to 9.60% for premiums due from 1 July 2026. Some classes use different rates, including 1.4% for certain motor or cargo insurance and 4.4% for health-related cover.
VAT-exempt premium collection
Insurance activities are generally VAT-exempt under Article 44. Keep insurance premium tax separate from VAT and avoid treating a policy premium invoice like a normal 21% VAT invoice.
