Comparing Two Salary Offers After Tax
A higher gross salary offer doesn't always mean more take-home pay — especially once federal tax brackets, FICA, and (if you're comparing offers in different states) state income tax are factored in. This calculator compares two 2026 salary offers on an after-tax basis rather than a raw gross-to-gross comparison.
What's compared
- Federal income tax under the same 2026 brackets for both salaries — since both are taxed identically at the federal level regardless of employer
- FICA — 6.2% Social Security up to the $184,500 wage base and 1.45% Medicare — withheld the same way from both offers
- State income tax, which this federal-only figure does not calculate — if the two offers are in different states, that gap can be as large as, or larger than, the federal difference and should be checked separately
