Remove Background from Image

US passport and visa photos are unusually large at 2 × 2 inches, with the head taking up most of the frame against a plain white or off-white background. That square format trips a lot of people up, and a busy background is one of the most common reasons applications get bounced — so start by removing whatever is behind you and setting a clean, neutral backdrop.

The same spec applies to almost every nonimmigrant and immigrant visa photo, plus Green Card and Global Entry submissions, which is why getting the background right once saves grief across the board. Amazon’s image policy is strict: the main product image must sit on a pure-white background, defined as RGB 255, 255, 255 (#FFFFFF), filling at least 85% of the frame.
