How to use a Gibraltar commercial invoice template

A commercial invoice is a customs document, not a tax invoice — it should show the goods description, HS/commodity code, country of origin, Incoterms 2020 rule and EORI reference. This is a fast-moving area following the 2026 EU-Gibraltar customs treaty.

Fields to keep in the template

  • Exporter/importer details and EORI reference (via Spanish NIF, if applicable).
  • Goods description, HS code, country of origin and quantity.
  • Incoterms 2020 rule, named place, declared value, freight and insurance.

NIF and EORI — check current guidance

HM Customs Gibraltar published guidance (26 May 2026) on NIF/EORI registration for traders moving goods via Spain/EU customs territory. A Spanish NIF is a prerequisite step to an EORI number and does not itself create a Spanish tax presence. If a customs agent clears goods on the trader's behalf, the trader may not need its own EORI/NIF.

FAQs about Gibraltar commercial invoice templates

Does this template need a VAT field?

No. Gibraltar has no VAT — this is a customs document showing customs value and Incoterms, though import duty may still apply in the destination country.

Do I need a Spanish NIF and EORI number?

Only if moving goods via Spain/EU customs territory yourself — a Spanish NIF is a prerequisite step to obtaining an EORI number. Not needed if a customs agent clears on your behalf.
