Text watermarks for drafts and confidential files
Text watermarks make the status of a PDF obvious. Common labels include “DRAFT”, “CONFIDENTIAL”, “SAMPLE”, “PAID”, “INTERNAL”, a client name or a project reference. Keep text short and use around 15–35% opacity so the file remains readable.
A diagonal centre mark suits contracts and review drafts. A smaller corner mark is cleaner for invoices, reports and statements.
Logo and image watermarks
Image mode supports company logos, approval stamps and project marks. Transparent PNG is best for logos because it avoids a white box; JPEG works for rectangular images.
Lower opacity when the logo sits over content, and avoid covering amounts, dates, signatures or key terms.
Page ranges and tiled watermarks
Mark all pages or only covers, appendices, odd/even pages or ranges such as 1-3, 7, 10-. Tiled marks repeat across the page and are useful for confidential review copies or samples.
Browser privacy
PDF processing runs in the browser. That helps for client data, pricing, HR information, legal drafts and internal notes. The original file is not overwritten.
Watermark limits
A visible watermark is a label, not redaction, DRM, password protection or a digital signature. Editing a signed PDF normally invalidates the signature.
Troubleshooting
If the mark is too strong, reduce opacity. Use transparent PNG for logos. Unlock encrypted PDFs first and preview rotated or landscape pages.
