Most "trucking invoice" searches in Malta are really for local goods delivery — small vans and trucks moving construction materials, retail stock or furniture between towns on Malta and Gozo. Malta is about 27km long with no land border to anywhere, so there is no genuine long-haul international trucking market comparable to mainland EU — this generator is built around that local-delivery reality.
International road freight means a ferry crossing, not a border crossing
Genuine international road freight out of Malta only exists via RoRo ferry shipment of trailers/trucks, mainly the Malta (Valletta)–Pozzallo (Sicily) route, with onward road haulage across mainland Italy or Europe. Some sources report the direct Malta–Catania link has been reduced, with Pozzallo now the primary Sicilian freight gateway — check current sailings before relying on a specific route. The Malta–Gozo ferry, by contrast, is a purely domestic short-sea link between the two islands, not an international route.
Road Haulage Operator's Licence (Transport Malta)
Carrying goods for hire or reward requires a Road Haulage Operator's Licence from Transport Malta's Road Transport Licensing Unit, historically for vehicles above roughly 3.5 tonnes. Since 21 May 2022 this licence requirement was extended to light commercial vehicles (LCVs) used for goods-for-hire haulage between EU member states. Requirements include professional competence, financial standing and good repute, plus appointing a Transport Manager under EU Regulation 1071/2009 — check Transport Malta's current fee schedule rather than relying on a fixed figure, since published fees can change.
VAT on haulage services
