Class 1 vs Class 2 Social Security Contributions in Malta (2026)
Malta's Social Security system splits contributors into Class 1 (employees) and Class 2 (self-occupied), each with its own rate, ceiling and calculation basis. Class 1 contributors pay 10% of gross salary, matched by a separate 10% from their employer, up to an annual ceiling of €29,084.12 in 2026. Class 2 contributors pay 15% of net income alone — with no employer to share the cost — up to a slightly lower ceiling of €29,083.36, and crucially, the contribution is based on the PRECEDING year's net income rather than the current year's.
This calculator applies whichever Class applies to your situation automatically, using 2026's weekly and annual bands, so you can see the exact euro contribution due rather than reading a static rate table.
