Pro-Rata Salary Calculator
Calculate your pro-rata annual, monthly and weekly salary based on the ratio of your actual hours to full-time hours in Malta (EUR).
A pro-rata salary is a full-time annual salary recalculated in proportion to the actual hours worked compared with full-time hours. For example, if the full-time annual salary is EUR 30,000 and full-time hours are set at 40 per week, an employee working 25 hours a week would be entitled to 62.5% of that amount. The calculator above works out the pro-rata annual, monthly and weekly salary automatically from the figures you enter. It is useful when comparing a part-time job offer or checking that a part-time salary has been calculated correctly.

Enter the number of hours actually worked per week under the contract, for example 25 hours.
- 4
Get the pro-rata salary
The calculator shows the annual, monthly and weekly salary worked out from the ratio between your hours and full-time hours.
The calculation formula
Pro-rata annual salary = full-time annual salary x (actual hours worked / full-time hours)
- The result is a gross figure, before tax and social security contributions.
- If the period worked is less than a full year, the amount is further multiplied by the number of months worked and divided by 12.
- The monthly salary is the annual figure divided by 12, and the weekly salary is the annual figure divided by roughly 52.
- The actual amount paid may differ depending on bonuses, allowances or other terms set out in the employment contract or applicable Wage Regulation Order.

Frequently Asked Questions
- What is a pro-rata salary?
- A pro-rata salary is a salary recalculated in proportion to the actual hours worked compared with full-time hours. It applies to part-time work, or to periods of employment that do not cover a full year, so that pay matches the actual time worked.
- Is pro-rata salary calculated before or after tax?
- This calculator shows a gross figure, meaning the amount before income tax and social security contributions are deducted. The take-home amount will be lower, depending on the tax rules that apply to the employee.
- Are leave and bonuses calculated on the same ratio?
- Usually yes — in Malta, part-time employees are generally entitled to statutory bonuses, vacation leave, sick leave and other entitlements on a pro-rata basis calculated on their weekly hours compared with a full-timer doing the same job.
- How is pay calculated if I only worked part of the year?
- In that case, the pro-rata annual salary is further multiplied by the number of months actually worked, then divided by 12. The calculator lets you enter the number of months worked to cover this situation.
- What is the standard number of full-time hours in Malta?
- Full-time hours in Malta are commonly set at 40 hours a week, but the exact figure depends on the employment contract, the relevant Wage Regulation Order, or any collective agreement that applies to the role.
