In Malta, passport and identity-card photos must have a plain white background, with the face taking up most of the 35 × 45 mm frame. You can upload a photo taken at home, remove a busy or coloured background and replace it with pure white so that it meets the background requirement before you submit your application to Identità.

Let’s be honest about the limits: this tool only handles the background. It does not fix the lighting, the camera angle, your expression or the required head proportions, and it cannot guarantee that your photo will be accepted. Online shops and marketplaces favour a pure white background, because it makes the product stand out and gives a tidy, consistent catalogue. Remove the original background and then choose Colour → white (#FFFFFF) to get a professional-looking product photo without needing a studio or a lightbox.

Social media profiles, LinkedIn headshots and forum avatars look far more polished with a clean background. Remove the distracting backdrop and replace it with a solid colour, a tasteful blur or an image in your brand colours so your portrait stands out for the right reasons.

A transparent PNG is also useful when you want to drop your portrait onto any background — for example on a team page or a presentation slide. Because everything is processed on your own device, you can edit personal photos in complete privacy.

Scan a handwritten signature or photograph a logo, then remove the background to get a clean, transparent PNG. A cut-out signature can be dropped into contracts, PDFs and electronic forms without the ugly white box around it that you normally get from a scan.
