Auto repair invoice generator for Malta garages

Create a Malta garage invoice for servicing, diagnostics, repair, tyres, parts, labour, fleet and accident/insurance work. The PDF covers vehicle, VIN/chassis number, odometer, repair order, parts, labour and 18% VAT.

Malta charges the standard 18% VAT rate on vehicle repair labour and parts — the reduced 5% rate for "minor repairs" only covers bicycles, shoes, leather goods, clothing and household linen, not motor vehicles, so do not apply it here.

What a Malta garage invoice should include

  • Garage name, address, VAT number (if Article 10-registered) and payment details.
  • Customer name, vehicle make/model, registration, VIN/chassis number and odometer reading.
  • Repair order or job number, diagnostic notes and the technician or service advisor.
  • Separate lines for diagnostics, labour, parts, fluids, tyres and waste-disposal charges.
  • 18% VAT rate and amount, unless the garage is a below-threshold small undertaking.
  • Warranty terms, replaced parts and next-service recommendations.

Tax Invoice or Fiscal Receipt?

Malta draws a sharp line between two document types. A Tax Invoice is issued when a VAT-registered (Article 10) garage bills another VAT-registered business — a fleet operator, rental company or another trader. A Fiscal Receipt is issued for ordinary consumer repairs — most walk-in and individual customers — via a fiscal cash register, approved computerised system, or manual receipt book.

Check the customer's VAT status before choosing which document to issue: billing a private car owner as if it were a B2B Tax Invoice (or vice versa) is a common Malta-specific mistake this tool helps you avoid.

18% VAT — no reduced rate for vehicle repair

Under the VAT Act (Cap. 406), the 5% reduced rate for "minor repairs" is limited to bicycles, shoes, leather goods, clothing and household linen — motor vehicle repair labour and parts remain at the standard 18% rate. There is no dedicated national garage licence beyond general business registration with the Malta Tax and Customs Administration (MTCA), formerly the Commissioner for Revenue (CFR), and Jobsplus/BusinessFirst if self-employed.
