Gibraltar Net Salary Calculator (GIBS vs ABS)
Work out your Gibraltar take-home pay for 2026/27. Automatically compares the Gross Income Based System (GIBS) and Allowance Based System (ABS) and uses whichever gives the lower tax.
How your Gibraltar salary is taxed: GIBS, ABS, and social insurance explained
Gibraltar runs two parallel income tax systems for the 2026/27 tax year (1 July 2026 to 30 June 2027): the Allowance Based System (ABS), which starts from a personal allowance of £3,455 before applying tax bands, and the Gross Income Based System (GIBS), which taxes gross income directly with no personal allowance. Each year the Income Tax Office works out your bill under both systems and charges you whichever is lower — you don't need to elect in advance.
On top of income tax, employees pay social insurance on their earnings, currently 10% of pay, with a floor and a cap on the actual amount contributed rather than on the earnings it's calculated from. This calculator applies both tax systems and the social insurance rules together to show your real take-home pay.
What this calculator applies to your salary
- ABS: a £3,455 personal allowance, then 14% on the next £4,000, 17% on the next £12,000, and 39% on anything above £19,455 of gross income
- GIBS: tax calculated directly on gross income with no personal allowance, using its own rate schedule — automatically compared against ABS so you're only ever charged the lower of the two
- Employee social insurance: 10% of earnings, subject to a minimum annual contribution of £745.68 and a maximum of £2,227.13
- The employer's own 18% social insurance contribution, which doesn't reduce your pay but is shown for context
