About the firm

We are a firm of Chartered Certified Accountants on City Road, London, built for the businesses that big practices treat as an afterthought: SMEs, sole traders, landlords, contractors and one-person limited companies.

Everything below audit

Our promise is simple to say and unusual to find: everything below audit level, done properly, at a fixed monthly fee. Annual accounts, corporation tax, self assessment, VAT, bookkeeping, payroll, CIS, company secretarial, tax planning — if a growing business needs it, it is on our list, and the list is on this page. The only work we do not take on is statutory audit itself; if you ever grow into needing one, we will tell you early and help you brief the right specialist rather than pretending.

Who we act for

Most of our clients fall into four groups. Limited company directors who want the salary-and-dividend question answered properly every year, not recycled from a blog post. Sole traders and freelancers — electricians and designers, consultants and couriers — who want self assessment off their desk and, since April 2026, Making Tax Digital handled without drama. Landlords, from a single flat to a portfolio, where the difference between average and careful tax work is often four figures a year. And contractors, inside and outside IR35, who need someone who actually reads the contract.

How we work

Every client gets a fixed monthly fee agreed in writing before we start — it covers the compliance work, the software, and unlimited questions. We think a client who is afraid to email their accountant has the wrong accountant.

We answer the same working day, usually within a couple of hours. Deadlines are tracked on our side, not yours: you will hear from us about your confirmation statement, your VAT quarter, your payment on account — before they are due, with the numbers already prepared.

The practice runs on Xero, QuickBooks and FreeAgent, and we are certified on all three. If you are still on spreadsheets, we will move you across ourselves, including the bank feeds and the receipt capture, so the Making Tax Digital rules are something that happened to other people.

Switching to us

If you already have an accountant, moving is genuinely painless: one email from you, and we handle professional clearance, records handover and the HMRC authorisations. Most switches finish inside two weeks. Nobody has ever described it as awkward — the industry has a polite protocol for exactly this, and we run it for you.

Why the reviews say what they say

Read the reviews on this page and you will notice the same words repeating: fast, plain English, fixed fee, nothing was too much trouble. That is the whole strategy. Accountancy is not short of technical competence; it is short of firms that answer the phone, explain things once and clearly, and charge what they said they would. We built this practice to be that firm — first for a hundred clients, and now, through invoice24, for the businesses that find us here.

If that sounds like what you have been looking for, send an enquiry from this page. You will hear back today.

Services — everything below audit

A full compliance and advisory service for SMEs, sole traders, landlords and contractors. If it sits below statutory audit, it is covered here.

Compliance & Accounts

Annual statutory accounts

Year-end accounts prepared under FRS 105 or FRS 102 1A and filed at Companies House on time — with a plain-English summary of what the numbers say about your business.

Sole trader & partnership accounts

Clean year-end figures for unincorporated businesses, ready for self assessment and for the bank when you need finance.

Bookkeeping

Weekly or monthly bookkeeping in Xero, QuickBooks or FreeAgent, with bank feeds and receipt capture, so your numbers are always live — not reconstructed a year later.

Management accounts

Monthly or quarterly packs — profit, cash, debtors, runway — designed to be read in five minutes and acted on.

Confirmation statements

Filed accurately and on time every year, with shareholder and PSC details kept current so Companies House never becomes a problem.

Company formation

Incorporation done properly on day one: share structure, PSC register, registered office and the tax registrations that new directors always miss.

Company secretarial

Share transfers, dividend paperwork, board minutes, register maintenance — the housekeeping that keeps dividends legal and due diligence painless.

Registered office service

Use our City Road address as your registered office, with same-day scanning of statutory mail.

Dormant company accounts

Keeping a company on ice? We file the dormant accounts and confirmation statement for a nominal fee so it stays in good standing.

Companies House ID verification support

Every director and PSC must verify their identity by 18 November 2026. We walk you through it in minutes, before filings start bouncing.

Independent examination (small charities)

Independent examination for charities under the audit threshold — the proportionate check the Charity Commission expects.

Tax

Self assessment

Your personal tax return prepared, checked against every relief you are entitled to, and filed well before 31 January — with your payments on account explained in advance.

Corporation tax (CT600)

Company tax computations and CT600 filing, with marginal relief between 19% and 25% actually worked through rather than guessed.

VAT returns & schemes

Quarterly VAT under Making Tax Digital, plus the scheme decisions that change your bill: flat rate vs standard, cash accounting, annual accounting, partial exemption.

MTD for Income Tax onboarding

Live since April 2026 for sole traders and landlords over £50,000. We set up the digital records, file the quarterly updates and keep the penalty points at zero — included in the fixed fee.

Dividend & salary planning

The 2026/27 dividend tax rise changed the maths. We rerun your optimal salary-dividend split every April, not once when you joined.

Landlord & property tax

Rental accounts, the Section 24 interest restriction, capital vs revenue repairs, and CGT planning for disposals — for one flat or a portfolio.

Capital gains tax

Disposal computations, the 60-day property CGT return, and timing advice that uses both your annual exemption and your marginal rates properly.

CIS returns

Monthly CIS returns for contractors, deduction statements for subcontractors, and repayment claims chased until HMRC actually pays.

R&D tax relief

Honest R&D claims under the merged scheme — genuine qualifying work, documented to survive an HMRC enquiry, with no percentage-fee inflation.

IR35 & off-payroll reviews

Contract and working-practice reviews with a written status opinion, before you sign — not after HMRC writes.

P11D & benefits in kind

P11D and Class 1A filings for company cars, medical cover, loans and the rest — plus advice on payrolling benefits to kill the form entirely.

HMRC enquiries & disclosures

If HMRC opens an enquiry or you need to come forward — Let Property Campaign, worldwide disclosure — we manage the whole conversation and negotiate the penalties down.

Pre-year-end tax review

A working session two months before year-end, while there is still time to act: pensions, capital spending, dividends, losses — the levers that stop being levers on day one of the new year.

Payroll & People

Payroll (RTI)

Weekly or monthly payroll with payslips, RTI submissions and pension uploads — accurate against the 15% employer NIC rules and the £10,500 Employment Allowance.

Director-only payroll

The one-director payroll that pairs with your dividend plan, set at the right salary level and filed every period without you thinking about it.

Auto-enrolment pensions

Staging, employee assessment, contributions and re-enrolment every three years, with The Pensions Regulator declarations done on time.

Statutory pay & leave

SSP, SMP, SPP and holiday calculations handled correctly — including the reclaims most small employers never make.

Subcontractor management (CIS)

Verification, deduction statements and monthly returns for construction businesses using subcontractors.

Advisory

Cash flow forecasting

A rolling 13-week cash view plus a 12-month forecast, so hiring, tax bills and quiet months stop being surprises.

Budgets & business plans

Numbers that stand up — for the bank, for investors, or just for deciding whether the second hire pays for itself.

Sole trader to limited company

The incorporation decision modelled with 2026/27 rates — tax saved, costs added, and the right timing — then executed for you if the answer is yes.

Business startup advice

Structure, registrations, software and first-year tax planning in one session, so the business starts on the right foundations.

Exit & BADR planning

Selling or winding down? Business Asset Disposal Relief now sits at 18% — planning the exit two years early is regularly worth five figures.

James Whitfield

Director, e-commerce company

July 2026

Moved to ATP in January after two years of radio silence from our old firm. The difference is night and day — every email answered same day, our VAT quarter filed a week early, and the year-end call actually explained the numbers instead of reading them out. Fixed fee has not moved once.

Response from the firm · Accounting and Tax Portal Ltd

Thank you James — the same-day rule is the one we hire for. Speak soon about the Q3 forecast.

Priya Raman

Sole trader — graphic designer

July 2026

I was dreading Making Tax Digital. ATP set up FreeAgent for me, connected my bank, and filed my first quarterly update in about ten minutes of my time in total. They even told me about the penalty grace period so I would stop panicking. Worth every penny.

Mark Osei

Landlord, 4 properties

June 2026

Found them through a recommendation and stayed for the tax planning. They restructured how my rental interest was being handled and saved me more in the first year than their fee. The 60-day CGT return on my sale in March was filed with three weeks to spare.

Sophie Turner

Director, marketing agency

June 2026

The salary and dividend advice after the April changes was worth the whole year of fees on its own. Clear, unhurried, and they showed the workings. Payroll for our team of six runs like clockwork.

Daniel McCarthy

Contractor — IT consultancy

June 2026

Third accountant I have used as a contractor and the first one that actually read my contract before giving an IR35 opinion. Written status review within the week. FreeAgent sorted. No drama.

Hannah Ellis

Sole trader — physiotherapist

May 2026

Switched from doing my own return. They found expenses I had never claimed, filed early, and set my payments on account so nothing was a surprise. Emails answered within the hour, twice.
