Date Calculator UK
Our free UK date calculator lets you find the number of days between two dates, count working days with bank holidays automatically excluded, add or subtract days from any date, and calculate your exact age. All results update instantly — no button to press.
How to count days between two dates in the UK
Enter a start date and an end date in the Date Difference tab. The calculator shows you the total number of calendar days, the number of working days (Monday to Friday, excluding bank holidays), the number of weekend days, and a list of any bank holidays that fall within the range.
Working days matter for legal deadlines, invoice payment terms, notice periods, and project planning. The UK uses a Monday-to-Friday working week, so our calculator skips Saturdays, Sundays, and all England & Wales bank holidays by default. Switch to Scotland or Northern Ireland in the region selector to apply the correct bank holidays for those nations — Scottish bank holidays differ on New Year, 2nd January, and the Summer Bank Holiday date, while Northern Ireland adds St Patrick's Day and the Battle of the Boyne.
UK bank holidays 2026
England and Wales have eight permanent bank holidays per year. In 2026 these fall on: New Year's Day (1 January), Good Friday (3 April), Easter Monday (6 April), Early May Bank Holiday (4 May), Spring Bank Holiday (25 May), Summer Bank Holiday (31 August), Christmas Day (25 December), and Boxing Day — which falls on a Saturday in 2026 so is observed on Monday 28 December.
Scotland has nine bank holidays and does not observe Easter Monday but does observe 2nd January and St Andrew's Day (30 November). Northern Ireland observes St Patrick's Day (17 March) and the Battle of the Boyne (13 July, the nearest Monday).
Occasional one-off bank holidays are declared by Royal Proclamation for events such as coronations or jubilees. These are not included in the calculator automatically — if one is announced, you can account for it by selecting the date in your range and reviewing the holiday list.
Add or subtract days from a date
Use the Add / Subtract tab to find what date falls a certain number of days, weeks, months, or years before or after a starting date. Toggle "Working days only" to skip weekends and bank holidays — useful for calculating a 30-day invoice payment deadline, a 14-day cooling-off period, or a 90-day notice period.
For example: if a contract is signed on 3 April 2026 and payment is due within 30 calendar days, the due date is 3 May 2026. If the contract specifies 30 working days, the calculator steps forward day by day, skipping Good Friday, Easter Monday, and the Early May Bank Holiday, landing on 18 June 2026.
Age calculator — years, months and days
The Age tab calculates your exact age as of today, or as of any reference date you choose. It shows years, months, and days, plus your total age in days and weeks, and the number of days until your next birthday.
This is useful for pension eligibility checks (UK state pension age is currently 66), Child Benefit applications (which stop on a child's 16th or 20th birthday), or simply satisfying curiosity about how many days you have been alive.
ISO week numbers in the UK
The UK uses ISO 8601 week numbering, where weeks start on Monday and week 1 is the week containing the first Thursday of the year. In 2026, week 1 runs from Monday 29 December 2025 to Sunday 4 January 2026. Use the Week Number tab to find the ISO week number for any date, or to confirm which week a deadline falls in when dealing with European suppliers who reference week numbers in their schedules.
FAQ
- How many working days are there in 2026 in the UK?
- England and Wales have 252 working days in 2026 (365 calendar days minus 104 weekend days and 8 bank holidays, one of which — Boxing Day — is observed on Monday 28 December). Scotland has 251 working days due to its additional bank holiday on 2 January.
- Does the calculator include Scottish and Northern Irish bank holidays?
- Yes. Select Scotland or Northern Ireland from the region selector in the Working Days tab. Scotland applies 9 bank holidays including 2nd January and St Andrew's Day but not Easter Monday. Northern Ireland applies 10 bank holidays including St Patrick's Day (17 March) and the Battle of the Boyne.
- What is the difference between calendar days and working days?
- Calendar days count every day including weekends and public holidays. Working days (also called business days) count only Monday to Friday, excluding bank holidays. Legal notice periods in the UK typically specify calendar days; employment contracts often specify working days. Check your contract carefully.
- When is the next UK bank holiday?
- In 2026, UK bank holidays fall on: 1 Jan (New Year's Day), 3 Apr (Good Friday), 6 Apr (Easter Monday), 4 May (Early May Bank Holiday), 25 May (Spring Bank Holiday), 31 Aug (Summer Bank Holiday), 25 Dec (Christmas Day), 28 Dec (Boxing Day substitute). Scotland also observes 2 Jan and 30 Nov (St Andrew's Day).
- How do I calculate a 14-day cooling-off period?
- Under UK consumer law, your 14-day cooling-off period for online purchases starts the day after you receive your goods. Enter that day as the start date in the Add / Subtract tab, add 14 calendar days, and the result is the last day you can cancel. If you want 14 working days instead, toggle "Working days only".
