Free roofing invoice generator & template
Create a professional roofing invoice in minutes. Add the property address, roof type and material, roof area in squares or m², contractor licence and dual warranty terms, then download a clean PDF — free, with no sign-up required. This page covers residential and light-commercial roof work — tear-off, re-roof, repair and roof-specific materials. If you're billing a larger multi-trade build with progress payments and retention, see our construction invoice generator instead.
What should a roofing invoice include?
Beyond the standard invoice fields, a roofing invoice needs to identify the property, describe the roof type and material, record the roof area, and show warranty terms clearly — customers and adjusters alike expect to see materials and workmanship warranties listed separately.
- Property / service address, if different from the billing address — needed for warranty registration and permits
- Roof type and material (asphalt shingle, metal, tile, slate, flat/membrane) and job type (tear-off, repair, new install)
- Roof area in squares (100 sq ft, the US/CA convention) or m² everywhere else
- Materials and labour split onto separate lines — relevant for CIS, sales-tax and reduced-VAT eligibility, same as general construction
- Contractor licence or registration number, where your market expects one
- Materials (manufacturer) warranty and workmanship (contractor) warranty, each with its own duration
- A permit fee line if a building permit was required for the tear-off/re-roof
Reverse charge, withholding and reduced VAT — the same rules as general construction
Roofing subcontracting is treated as an ordinary construction operation almost everywhere we cover, so the reverse-charge, withholding and reduced-rate mechanisms documented on our construction invoice generator apply to roofing verbatim — the UK's CIS domestic reverse charge, Germany's §13b UStG (and Bauabzugsteuer, which does NOT apply when your customer is a private homeowner working on their own home), France's autoliquidation, and similar regimes across the EU. Rather than repeat that full statutory detail here, see our construction invoice guide for the complete citations and worked examples. Spain is the one place roofing gets its own explicit statutory mention: the 10% "rehabilitación" reduced rate applies when structural work — including roof work — makes up at least half the project cost, the contractor's own materials stay under 40% of the taxable base, the property is for a private individual's own use, and the building was completed at least two years before work starts.
Squares, warranty terms, and insurance claims
Roofing is priced and measured differently from most trades: US and Canadian roofers quote by the "square" (100 sq ft), while the rest of the world quotes in m² — use whichever your market expects in the roof-area field and rate label. Warranty terms are the single biggest trust signal on a roofing invoice: always show the materials (manufacturer) warranty and workmanship (contractor) warranty as two separate durations, since they commonly differ by a decade or more. For US, Canadian and Australian storm-damage jobs, the optional insurance-claim field lets you reference the claim number, policy number and carrier — but remember that ACV/RCV and depreciation figures come from the adjuster's estimate, not from this tool, and an insurance-funded job is still taxed under your state's normal contractor rules regardless of who's paying.
