Date Calculator Canada

Our free Canadian date calculator counts days between two dates, calculates business days excluding federal and provincial public holidays, adds or subtracts days from a date, and computes your exact age in years, months, and days. Results update instantly as you type.

How to count days between two dates

Enter a start date and end date in the "Date Difference" tab. The calculator shows total calendar days, business days (Monday–Friday excluding public holidays), weekend days, and a list of public holidays in the range.

Canada has 10 federal statutory holidays that apply to federally regulated employees. Each province and territory also sets its own statutory holidays — Ontario, Quebec, British Columbia, and Alberta all have additional days. Select your province or territory in the region selector to get an accurate business day count for your location.

Canadian federal public holidays 2026

Canada's 10 federal statutory holidays in 2026 are: New Year's Day (January 1), Good Friday (April 3), Victoria Day (May 18), Canada Day (July 1), Labour Day (September 7), National Day for Truth and Reconciliation (September 30), Thanksgiving (October 12), Remembrance Day (November 11), Christmas Day (December 25), and Boxing Day (December 26).

Victoria Day falls on the Monday before May 25 — May 18 in 2026. Thanksgiving falls on the second Monday of October — October 12 in 2026. National Day for Truth and Reconciliation (September 30) became a federal statutory holiday in 2021; it currently applies to federally regulated workplaces and is not a statutory holiday in all provinces.

Add or subtract days from a date

Use the "Add / Subtract" tab to find the date a given number of days, weeks, months, or years before or after a start date. Toggle "Business days only" to skip weekends and holidays.

This is useful for: calculating payment terms (Net 30 or Net 60 are common in Canada), notice periods for employment or tenancy (Ontario requires one week per year of employment for termination notice under the ESA), limitation periods under provincial law (generally 2 years for civil claims in most provinces), CRA tax filing deadlines, and project milestone planning.

Age calculator

The "Age Calculator" tab shows your exact age in years, months, and days, your total age in days and weeks, and the number of days until your next birthday.

This is useful for: checking CPP eligibility (you can start CPP as early as 60 or delay to 70), OAS eligibility (65, or deferred to 70 for a higher monthly amount), confirming age for RRSP contribution deadlines (contributions must stop at the end of the year you turn 71), or verifying age requirements for provincial programs.

Week numbers in Canada

Canada uses a Sunday-starting week calendar, consistent with the US and Mexico. Week 1 is the week containing January 1. This differs from the ISO 8601 standard used in Europe, where weeks start on Monday. Week numbers are used in project planning tools, school calendars, and supply chain scheduling. Look up the week number for any date in the "Week Number" tab.

FAQ

How many business days are there in 2026 in Canada?
Canada has approximately 251 federal business days in 2026 (365 calendar days minus 104 weekend days and 10 federal statutory holidays, adjusted for holidays falling on weekends). Provincial totals vary: Ontario has around 249 due to Family Day and other provincial holidays; Quebec has additional days including National Patriots' Day and St. Jean-Baptiste Day.
Is Remembrance Day a statutory holiday in all provinces?
No. Remembrance Day (November 11) is a federal statutory holiday and a statutory holiday in most provinces and territories, but not in Ontario, Quebec, or Manitoba. Employees in those provinces who work in federally regulated industries still observe it.
What is the difference between calendar days and business days?
Calendar days count every day of the year including weekends and holidays. Business days count only Monday to Friday, excluding statutory holidays. Employment contracts and legal notices in Canada may specify either — always check which applies. For example, a "5 business day" notice period excludes weekends and public holidays.
When is Good Friday 2026 in Canada?
Good Friday 2026 falls on April 3. Easter Sunday is April 5. Victoria Day is May 18 (the Monday before May 25). Canada Day is July 1 (Wednesday in 2026). Thanksgiving is October 12 (the second Monday of October).
How do I calculate a 2-year limitation period for a legal claim?
In most Canadian provinces the basic limitation period for civil claims is 2 years from the date the claim was discovered. Enter the date the claim arose as the start date in the "Add / Subtract" tab, add 2 years, and you get the deadline. Always confirm with a lawyer — some claims (e.g. real property, government defendants) have different periods.
