Understanding your PAYG take-home pay

If you're paid as an employee, your take-home pay for FY2026-27 comes down to three things: income tax withheld under PAYG, the Medicare Levy, and — separately, on top of your pay rather than out of it — the 12% Superannuation Guarantee your employer is required to contribute.

This calculator applies the current income tax bands and Medicare Levy thresholds to your gross salary, so you can see exactly where each dollar goes and how your take-home pay compares to what you'd keep on an ABN doing similar work.

What's included in this calculation

  • Income tax at the current FY2026-27 marginal rates
  • The Medicare Levy, including the low-income phase-in
  • 12% Superannuation Guarantee, shown as an employer cost rather than a deduction from pay
  • Your resulting weekly, fortnightly, monthly and annual take-home figures
