How the Parental Leave Pay calculator works
- 1
Enter the days you are requesting
Paid Parental Leave is paid in days, up to a maximum of 130 days (26 weeks) for the 2026/27 period, shared between eligible parents according to how the family chooses to split it.
- 2
Enter any days already used
If some of the 130-day entitlement has already been used, by you or shared with your partner, enter that figure so the calculator can show the days and pay remaining.
- 3
Read your gross Parental Leave Pay
The calculator applies the current Services Australia daily rate to your remaining payable days to estimate your gross Parental Leave Pay.
- 4
Read the estimated superannuation contribution
Superannuation is now paid on Parental Leave Pay at the standard Superannuation Guarantee rate, so the calculator also estimates this contribution on top of your gross pay.
The Parental Leave Pay formula
Gross Parental Leave Pay = payable days x daily rate Payable days = lower of (days requested, 130 - days already used) Estimated super contribution = gross Parental Leave Pay x Superannuation Guarantee rate
- The 2026/27 Paid Parental Leave scheme provides up to 130 days (26 weeks), an increase that has been progressively rolled out from the previous 20-week entitlement.
- The days can be shared flexibly between eligible parents, subject to a reserved period for each parent under the current scheme design.
- Superannuation on Parental Leave Pay is a comparatively recent addition to the scheme and is paid at the standard Superannuation Guarantee rate on top of the leave pay itself.
- This is separate from any employer-paid parental leave scheme, which some employers offer in addition to the government payment.
Worked example: the full 130-day entitlement
A parent requests the full 130 days of Parental Leave Pay available for the 2026/27 period, having used none of the entitlement so far.

What Parental Leave Pay covers, and what it does not
- This is a government payment, not employer-paid leave
- Parental Leave Pay is funded and paid by Services Australia based on the family's eligibility, separate from any employer parental leave policy. Some employers pay their own parental leave on top of this government scheme.
- Eligibility depends on a work and income test
- Services Australia applies a work test (based on hours worked before the birth or adoption) and an income test to determine eligibility for Parental Leave Pay, which this calculator does not check -- confirm your eligibility directly with Services Australia.
- Unpaid parental leave is a separate NES entitlement
- The National Employment Standards separately provide up to 12 months of unpaid parental leave (with a right to request a further 12 months) as job-protected leave, which is distinct from the paid days calculated here.
- The 130-day figure applies to the 2026/27 period
- The maximum days and daily rate are reviewed and can change between financial years, so confirm the current entitlement for your specific claim period rather than assuming this figure applies indefinitely.
Frequently asked questions
- How much is Parental Leave Pay in Australia for 2026/27?
- Parental Leave Pay is paid at the daily rate set by Services Australia for the 2026/27 period, for up to 130 days (26 weeks) in total, shared between eligible parents. Superannuation is also now paid on top of Parental Leave Pay at the standard Superannuation Guarantee rate.
- Can Parental Leave Pay be shared between parents?
- Yes. The current scheme allows the 130 days to be shared flexibly between eligible parents, with a reserved period for each parent that cannot be transferred, designed to encourage both parents to take leave.
- Is Parental Leave Pay the same as my employer's parental leave scheme?
- No. Parental Leave Pay is a government payment from Services Australia, funded separately from any employer parental leave policy. Many employers offer their own paid parental leave on top of the government scheme, which is not included in this calculator.
- Do I get superannuation on Parental Leave Pay?
- Yes, this is a comparatively recent change -- superannuation is now paid on Parental Leave Pay at the standard Superannuation Guarantee rate, in addition to the leave pay itself, which this calculator includes as an estimated contribution.
- What is the difference between Parental Leave Pay and unpaid parental leave?
- Parental Leave Pay is the paid days from Services Australia calculated in this tool. Unpaid parental leave is a separate entitlement under the National Employment Standards, providing up to 12 months of job-protected unpaid leave (with a right to request a further 12 months), which can run alongside or beyond the paid days.
Important caveats
This estimates Australian Parental Leave Pay only, not employer-funded paid parental leave or unpaid parental leave entitlement.
It uses the Services Australia 2026/27 rate from 1 July 2026 to 30 June 2027 and the 26-week / 130-day maximum entitlement.
Eligibility also depends on work, income, residency, birth/adoption and care requirements; this tool does not adjudicate those checks.
Parental Leave Pay is taxable income. The Paid Parental Leave Superannuation Contribution is paid by the ATO, not calculated or paid by employers through payroll.
