Add or remove 10% GST on any amount, check the $75,000 registration threshold, and estimate a quarterly BAS position.
You're below the registration threshold and don't need to register yet.
AUD 75,000 annual GST turnover — unchanged since GST's introduction on 1 July 2000 (not indexed). AUD 150,000 for non-profit bodies. Taxi/limousine and ride-sourcing (rideshare) drivers must register for GST regardless of turnover. Registration is required within 21 days of reaching, or reasonably expecting to reach, the threshold, tested on a rolling current-month-plus-prior-11-months AND current-month-plus-next-11-months basis.
GST basics every contractor needs to know
GST in Australia is a flat 10% on most goods and services, with a defined set of GST-free items (basic food, most health and education, and exports). The registration threshold is $75,000 of annual turnover — a figure that has never been indexed since GST began on 1 July 2000 — and $150,000 for non-profit bodies.
